Vans was founded in 1966 by brothers Paul Van Doren and Jim Van Doren along with Gordon Lee and Serge Delia. The Van Doren Rubber Company was created to supply skateboarding shoes with flat soles for grip and had an edge compared to other trainers on the market. As the company grew it transpired there was a massive demand for what the company were offering, and by 1978 they had developed 5 styles from the original Authentic style.
In 1984 Vans filed for bankruptcy after spending more than they could make buying resources to offer more styles to customers. However by 1987, the company had paid off all debt and made a comeback and began creating world leading action sports series by purchasing the Triple Crown of Surfing. By 2000 this series included skateboarding, BMX, surfing and snowboarding to name a few. Vans are still as famous as every and their iconic shoes remain a big part of modern day street style
