In 2006, American traveller Blake Mycoskie befriended children in a village in Argentina and found that they had no shoes to protect their feet. Wanting to help the children he created the brand Toms, a company that honoured the ONE FOR ONE program meaning that every pair of Toms that were sold, they would give a pair of shoes to a child in need.
Mcoyskie then expanded this brand realising the good that it was doing among the shoes for these children, seeing where his program could also be directed for the better. He began creating Eyewear for the Brand employing the same principle of giving eyewear to a person in need when a pair was sold.
"I was so overwhelmed by the spirit of the South American people, especially those who had so little, and I was instantly struck with the desire — the responsibility — to do more."
They have given over 60 million pairs of shoes and over to children in need of them and have 400'000 people restore their sight with the eyewear sales to date.
