Hugo Boss started his clothing company in 1924 in Metzingen, a small town south of Stuttgart, where it is still based. After going bankrupt in 1931 he managed to keep six sewing machines to start again and build the company we know today.
After his death in 1948 his son-in-law Eugen Holy took over the business and they received the first suit order in 1950 after supplying work uniforms. By 1960 they were producing ready made suits which expanded the business. Eugen retired in 1969 and left the business to his sons Jochen and Uwe who began international development. After the first branded suit was made in 1970 it lead to the brand becoming a registered trademark in 1977 which helped to built the brand relationship with the motoring association.
The brand has been growing ever since and is now the luxury fashion brand we know today with its menswear, ladieswear, kidswear perfumes and accessories.
